Rockford Spine Center is pleased to announce a successful new procedure to correct severe deformities of the spine. Transforaminal Anterior Release, or TFAR, is at the forefront of spine surgery techniques. Dr. Fred Sweet, fellowship trained orthopedic spine surgeon, devised the method in 2005 and he and his partners Dr. Michael Roh and Dr. Christopher Sliva have utilized the technique on more than 70 patients in the past 8 years.

The spine surgeons at Rockford Spine Center concluded a 10-year study in 2011 and the overwhelmingly positive results were published in the medical journal Spine. Now, two years later, other surgeons are adopting the method and launching their own confirmation studies.

Dr. Michael Roh will take part in the Rockford Chamber of Commerce People You Should Know talk series. He will discuss common myths about back surgery on Wednesday, February 13 from 12 to 1 p.m. at Rockford College. Dr. Roh was named one of the 21 People You Should Know in 2011.
